Winner of 2011 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition and the 2012 Coleman and Chesapeake Competitions, the Calidore String Quartet also took the second prizes at the 2012 International Competitions of Munich and Hambourg. Formed at the Colburn School Conservatory of Music, the quartet members have collaborated with many esteemed artists and ensembles including the Tokyo, St. Lawrence and Cavani String Quartets, Joshua Bell, Joseph Silverstein, Menahem Pressler and John Perry. Teachers and mentors of the Calidore String Quartet include André Roy, Arnold Steinhardt, Guillaume Sutre, Paul Coletti, Ronald Leonard, and the Quatuor Ebène.

The Calidore Quartet is an official selection of the 11th Banff International String Quartet Competition (August 26 -September 1, 2013).

Winner of the 2008 Outstanding Young Artist Award at the MIDEM Classique Awards in Cannes, the Navarra Quartet has also taken the 2nd Prize at the 2007 Melbourne International Competition and 1st Prize in 2005 at the Florence International Competition.  Formed in 2002 at the Royal Northern College of Music under the guidance of the late Dr Christopher Rowland and Alasdair Tait, and latterly as postgraduate students of the Alban Berg Quartet in Cologne, they are now Quartet in Residence at the Royal Northern College of Music. In 2010 the quartet recorded its first CD for Challenge Records of Peteris Vasks’ Quartets.

The Navarra Quartet is an official selection of the 11th Banff International String Quartet Competition (August 26 -September 1, 2013).

Grand Prize Winner of the 2013 Bordeaux International Competition, the Schumann Quartet also won 1st prize at the 2012 Schubert Competition in Graz and the 2nd prize at the 2010 Osaka International Chamber Music Competition.

Formed in Cologne in 2007, the quartet studies under the guidance of the Alban Berg Quartet with further instruction from Günter Pichler at the Queen Sofia College of Music of Madrid. Other teachers and mentors are Harald Schoneweg, Heime Müller, Eberhard Feltz, Miriam Fried and Henk Guittart. Since 2009, the quartet is Artist in Residence at the Robert Schumann Auditorium in Düsseldorf.

Formed in 2011, the Van Kuijk Quartet studies at the Conservatoire Supérieur de Paris under the tutelage of the Ysaÿe quartet. In 2012, they took part in the ProQuartet Academy in Paris under the guidance Günter Pichler. Other significant teachers and mentors are Reiko Kitahama and Luigi Vecchioni.

The quartet recently received the Académie des Beaux-Arts scholarship and the ProQuartet-CEMC special prize at the FNAPEC competition. The quartet has appeared on several radio and television shows in France and has played in many festivals with artists such as Dana Ciocarlie, pianist and singer Angelika Kirchschlager.

The Van Kuijk Quartet is an official selection of the 7th Trondheim International Chamber Music Competition (September 24-29, 2013).

Through testimonies of the most significant musicians of the 20th century, this documentary series traces the history of the String Quartet and of its performers.

The story of its birth in Vienna, at the time of Joseph Haydn, to the present day through its migration in Europe in the 19th century and its international migration to the USA in the 30s.

Winner of the 2013 Gasteig Competition, the Goldmund String Quartet was founded in 2009 at the youth academy of the Music Conservatory in Munich and are presently working with Hariolf Schlichtig and Gerhard Schulz.

They also participates regularly at masterclasses and such have worked with Stefan Arzberger, André J. Roy and Bernhard Schmidt. The Goldmund String Quartet gave their debut concert in the Prinzregententheater in Munich and since then, they regularly give concert throughout Germany. Since 2011 the Goldmund String Quartet is a scholar recipient of Yehudi Menuhin “ Live Music Now”. Their presence at MISQA is being sponsored by the Theodor-Rogler-Foundation.

The Sonoro Quartet was formed in the fall of 2012 at the Schulich School of Music of McGill University under the guidance of Professor André J. Roy.

The quartet has enjoyed a wide variety of musical engagements in Montreal. Highlights of their young performing career include a performance for the Lakeshore Chamber Music Society and a concert in honour of McGill University Principal Heather Munroe-Blum. Members of the quartet have participated in previous editions of MISQA, the Orford Arts Centre, the Perlman Music Program, Casalmaggiore, the Domaine Forget, the Toronto Summer Music Festival and various musical outreach programs.

The Yul String Quartet was formed in 2012 at Seoul National University under the tutelage of Eunsik Choi and Kyung Sun Lee.

The young ensemble has quickly established itself as the leader of its generation in South Korea and has recently been awarded a fellowship to participate in the prestigious Great Mountains Music Festival and School. Their debut concert was performed at the prestigious Kumho Art Hall in a series of Young Artist Concert supported by the Kumho Asiana Cultural Foundation.

Their presence at MISQA is being sponsored by the Ministry of Culture of South Korea.
