Calidore String Quartet

Biography

The Calidore String Quartet has earned international acclaim for its expressive depth, precision, and unity—praised by The Washington Post for “breathing, thinking, and feeling as one.” Performing at Carnegie Hall, Wigmore Hall, the Concertgebouw, and the BBC Proms, the ensemble collaborates with Anne-Sophie Mutter, Joshua Bell, and Gabriela Montero. Dedicated champions of new music, they have premiered works by John Williams, Caroline Shaw, and Mark-Anthony Turnage. Highlights of the 2025/26 season include a European tour, U.S. appearances, and the premiere of Turnage’s Arietta. Their acclaimed Signum recordings—Babel, Resilience, and the complete Beethoven quartets—have earned the BBC Music Magazine Award and Gramophone’s Editor’s Choice.

Formed in 2010 at the Colburn School in Los Angeles, the Quartet’s mentors include the Emerson and Ébène Quartets, André Roy, Arnold Steinhardt, David Finckel, and Günter Pichler.
