Miró Quartet

Biography

The Miró Quartet, based in Austin, Texas, is one of America’s most celebrated ensembles, praised by The New Yorker as “furiously committed” and by the Cleveland Plain Dealer for its “exceptional tonal focus and interpretive intensity.” GRAMMY®-nominated and Emmy Award-winning, the quartet performs worldwide and embraces innovative projects such as Here on Earth with Lara Downes, Credo by Kevin Puts, and Transcendence, its acclaimed multimedia Schubert project. Their albums Home and House of Belonging earned GRAMMY® nominations, while Home also features works by Kevin Puts and Caroline Shaw.

Formed in 1995 and winners of the Banff and Naumburg Competitions, the Miró became the first ensemble to receive the Avery Fisher Career Grant. Quartet-in-Residence at the University of Texas at Austin. The Quartet’s mentors include the Guarneri and Juilliard Quartets, and its name honors the visionary Spanish artist Joan Miró.
