Biography

Founded in 2024 at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, the Amaru Quartet won First Prize at the SFCM Chamber Music Honors Competition in both 2024 and 2025, distinctions that led to collaborations with renowned artists including Mateusz Kowalski, Jonathan Brown, Jonathan Vinocour, and Demarre McGill.

The ensemble studies under the guidance of Wonhee Bae and was invited to the 70th Jeunesses Musicales International Chamber Music Campus in Weikersheim, Germany, where they worked closely with the Vogler Quartet, Heime Müller, and Gunter Pichler. The name Amaru, derived from Amarullis (“sparkling” in Ancient Greek), reflects their artistic vision: to create performances that radiate energy, warmth, and expressive brilliance.
