Born in Vienna, Austria, Peter Schuhmayer is a founding member of the Artis Quartet, ensemble that has been laureate of the EBU (Cambridge) and Evian international competitions. The quartet has recorded extensively on numerous labels and has been rewarded with many prizes and international distinctions, including le Grand Prix du Disque of the Charles Cros Academy, the Diapason d’Or, the ECHO Klassik in Germany and the INDIE Award in Los Angeles.
Mr. Schuhmayer studied violin with Josef Suk, Hertha Binder and Alfred Staar and chamber music with Hatto Beyerle and Walter Levin. His frequent collaborations with other artists have included appearances with Mischa Maisky, Philippe Entremont, Christoph Eschenbach and Till Fellner.
Mr. Schuhmayer is presently a faculty member of the Vienna University where he teaches violin and chamber music.
