Biography

Founded in September 2019, the Arete Quartet unanimously passed the Kumho Art Hall Young Chamber Concert audition and debuted at Kumho Art Hall Yonsei in September of the following year. The live performance was exclusively introduced to Korea Broadcasting Corporation, the nation’s largest broadcaster.

The Arete Quartet won first place at the 72nd Prague Spring International Music Competition in 2021, and has won five other special awards, including the Bohuslav Martinu Foundation Award. The Quartet also won two special awards at the 12th Premio Paolo Borciani International String Quartet Competition, the “Best Performance Award in String Quartet” commissioned by Toshio Hosokawa and the “Jeunesses Musicales Deutschland Award.”

In 2023, the quartet received the first prize and the Mozart Best Interpretation Award at the 15th Mozart International Competition held at the Mozarteum in Salzburg.

The quartet was invited to the Prague Spring International Music Festival in 2022 and has been invited to various festivals such as Schleswig-Holstein music festival, Trebonska music festival and Ravenna festival.

The Arete Quartet is currently studying at “Hochschule für Musik und Theater” of Munich where they are being coached by Prof. Christoph Poppen, Jaeyoung Kim, Prof. Eberhard Feltz and the Quatuor Ébène.
