Biography

Grand Prize winners of the 2025 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition, the Katarina String Quartet has quickly distinguished itself as one of North America’s most compelling young ensembles. Additional honors include the Gold and BIPOC Prizes at the 2024 St. Paul Competition and the ProQuartet and Drimnin Prizes at the 2025 Wigmore Hall International Competition.

Highlights of their 2024–25 season include a Canadian and European tour, debut performances at Carnegie Hall and with CMS Kids, and a residency at the Highlands-Cashiers Chamber Music Festival.

Currently serving as the Graduate Resident String Quartet at The Juilliard School, the KSQ was founded in 2022 at McGill University, where they studied under the tutelage of André Roy. The ensemble has received further artistic guidance from members of the Juilliard, Alban Berg, Danel, Dover, and Pacifica Quartets, and has participated in prestigious programs such as IMS Prussia Cove and MISQA.

Named after Katarina Guarneri, the quartet honors overlooked voices through community engagement and Juilliard’s Gluck Fellowship.
