Marcel Saint- Cyr

Biography

Marcel Saint-Cyr was born in Quebec City where he studied cello with Lucien Plamondon and Walter Joachim to continue his studies in Europe with André Navarra, Leo Koscielny, Paul Tortelier, Enrico Mainardi and in the U.S.A with Leonard Rose.
Founding member of the internationally acclaimed Orford String Quartet, Marcel Saint-Cyr has performed internationally for several years and participated in many celebrated recordings. As professor at McGill University, Mr. Saint-Cyr has led the chamber music department for over two decades and is greatly responsible for its immense growth. For many years, he was the cellist of the Franz Joseph Trio, with which he has performed the complete cycle of the Haydn piano trios. Still active on the musical scene, Mr. Saint-Cyr is currently the cellist of the Franz Joseph String Quartet of Montreal.
