Born in Durham, North Carolina, Nicholas Kitchen grew up in a family of musicians.
At the end of his studies at Curtis, Kitchen joined his schoolmates and founded the Borromeo String Quartet that went on to win the Grand Prize the Evian International Quartet Competition and the Young Concert Artists.
Mr. Kitchen has premiered many new works, including a violin concerto by Stephen Jaffe, which was written for him. His frequent collaborations with other artists have included appearances with Peter Serkin, Joshua Bell, Christopher Eschenbach, Leon Fleisher, Richard Stoltzsman, Josef Suk and the great Turkish traditional musician Erkan Ogur.
His teachers have included Giorgio Ciompi, David Cerone and Szymon Goldberg.
Mr. Kitchen currently serves on the faculty of the New England Conservatory.
Mr. Kitchen performs on M. Goldberg’s Guarneri Del Gesu, known as the “Baron Vita”.
